Summary

Lucy’s learned some important lessons from tabloid darling Jayla Heart’s all-too-public blunders: Avoid the spotlight, don’t feed the Internet trolls, and keep your secrets secret. The policy has served Lucy well all through high school, so when her best friend Ellie gets sick before prom and begs her to step in as Cole’s date, she accepts with a smile, silencing about ten different reservations. Like the one where she’d rather stay home shredding online zombies. And the one where she hates playing dress-up. And especially the one where she’s been secretly in love with Cole since the dawn of time.
When Cole surprises her at the after party with a kiss under the stars, it’s everything Lucy has ever dreamed of… and the biggest BFF deal-breaker ever. Despite Cole’s lingering sweetness, Lucy knows they’ll have to ’fess up to Ellie. But before they get the chance, Lucy’s own Facebook profile mysteriously explodes with compromising pics of her and Cole, along with tons of other students’ party indiscretions. Tagged. Liked. And furiously viral.
By Monday morning, Lucy’s been branded a slut, a backstabber, and a narc, mired in a tabloid-worthy scandal just weeks before graduation.
Lucy’s been battling undead masses online long enough to know there’s only one way to survive a disaster of this magnitude: Stand up and fight. Game plan? Uncover and expose the Facebook hacker, win back her best friend’s trust, and graduate with a clean slate.
There’s just one snag—Cole. Turns out Lucy’s not the only one who’s been harboring unrequited love...

Review

So many feels right now you have no idea! It’s very rare that you find a book that is fun, witty and tackles some more of the serious issues all at the same time. The main plot of this story is bullying and the affects it can have, as well as our generation’s obsession with sharing every little detail of our lives on the Internet. It’s a book that will get you thinking as well as rooting for the main character - Lucy. It has enough twists and turns to keep you turning the page and so many moments that will have you laughing out loud. It's a brilliant piece of writing that I'm really excited for you lot to read!

“I know now that the pictures had already been taken by then, that they’d already started telling their story.”

The book starts at prom and it throws you head first into the story. What happens when everything you did after your prom ends up on the Internet? What if the things you did were questionable at best and friendship-destroying at worst? And what if you had your very own Gossip Girl encouraging these drunken moments to be shared with the rest of the world? Well, that’s what happens after prom for Lucy. The problem is, the photo’s incriminating the majority of her senior class have all been posted on HER facebook page. But Lucy didn’t post them. Lucy, as much as anyone else, has had her life flipped upside down by the photographs now circling the web and she’ll do just about anything to prove she’s not the narc everyone thinks she is. With some unexpected help and a somewhat meddling gossip queen, will Lucy be able to find out who’s got it out for her?

“Social networking should bring people together, not serve as an online gladiator arena.”

I was completely taken by Lucy from the very first page. I loved her as a character! She’s not the perfect high school cheerleader or part of any other overused clique. She’s unique in her nerd ways and I adored her snarky sense of humor. Even when her life is spiraling into a black hole with a population of hungry zombies at its centre she still finds the strength to prove her innocence. She never gives up, and I really admire that about our leading lady in the combat boots!

Okay, so this was so close to perfect it kills me. But… I do have one teensy wincey little thing. I needed more Cole! I’m a sucker for a romance and every aspect of this book was great apart from the fact I needed a little more of these two together. In a way it was a refreshing change for the romantic aspect not to be all consuming but they were just so damn cute I wanted to see a little bit more of them... and Spike... and Night of the Living Dog.

“Sometimes the right hug from the right person at the exact right time makes all the wrong in the world disappear.”

Overall I adored this book. With it's vivid characters, intriguing plot points and quirky sense of humour. It’s like a discussion at Comic Con wrapped in an episode of Gossip Girl, situated in a high school… it’s brilliant! From the full out debate on whether or not the futuristic technologies in the Millennium Falcon trump the ones in the Enterprise to an in-depth metaphor comparing high school to an episode of The Walking Dead. It’s Nerdvana and every time a little pop culture gem popped up it put a smile on my face. All members of the Nerdolution need to be reading this!

I’ll admit even though I loved this book I was a little worried that maybe you less nerd-inclined lovelies would struggle with it - as there are A LOT of references - but then I remembered something. I love Gilmore Girls! (Bare with me, it is relevant.) In Gilmore Girls there are so many references that it will make your head spin and I don’t get a single one of them and yet it’s one of my favourite shows! So, what I’m trying to say is PLEASE don’t let the fact this is like a stroll through Robert Kirkman’s brain put you off! This book is really great and has an important message within its pages. It’s an exciting addition to the YA Contemporary family and there are moments in it for everyone!

I highly recommend this book and I hope you all give it a chance. It will make you smile from ear to ear and it's exactly what you need this summer.
“All the haters and scandals in the world can’t change your heart. You’re already on the battlefield, right? So fight for it.”

Yeah, this book was really that good!
